Greenhouse is a unique programme for the development of documentary films aimed for Mediterranean filmmakers from Jordan, Algeria, the Palestinian Authority, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Israel, Syria, Lebanon & Turkey.
Greenhouse is a programme hosting 10-12 projects each round. The selected filmmakers are invited to participate in a yearly programme of three seminars in which they will develop a full international production file and a professional trailer which will be presented in a pitching forum in front of international commissioning editors, film funds directors, producers and distributors from the documentary international market.
The Greenhouse project won great professional achievements in its three years of operation; 37 projects, 57 participating from 9 MEDA countries, 2 completed films and 50% of our projects are in production stages.
With a significant support of acclaimed professionals, organizations, TV stations and film funds from all over the world – The Sundance Institute, Jan Vrijman Fund (IDFA), ARTE/ZDF, ITVS, Channel 4, Al Jazeera International, BBC Worldwide, World Cinema Fund, P.O.V, MDR Germany and many more – Greenhouse is now a leading organization in the development and support for Mediterranean documentary filmmakers.
At the final pitching forum of Greenhouse III (March 2009), the prominent panel members selected the Turkish project "Voice of My Father", directed by ZeynelDogan & produced by MelisaOnel. Claire Aguilar, vice-president of programming of ITVS (USA) awarded the project with a $15,000 development grant.
Moreover, the Moroccan project "Mrs Fenan – Woman with a Camera" directed by KarimaZoubir and produced by HichamBrini is in progressive negotiations for production support from Giles Trendle from Al Jazeera International.
