2016 Residency Award

The JBFC awarded Greenhouse 2014-2015 graduates Maryam Ebrahimi from Iran and Hind Bensari from Morocco for their work in progress ‘Stronger than a Bullet’ and ‘Weight Throwers’. The JBFC has awarded Ebrahimi and Bensari the opportunity to edit their projects, which were developed through Greenhouse. The program, which took place on March 13th-31st 2016, involved extensive editing at the JFBC facilities in NY, along with with a screening of Maryam and Hind's previous films: 475: Break the Silence by Hind Bensari & No Burqas Behind Bars by Nima Sarvestani/Maryam Ebrahimi, and of their current film's work-in-progress including Q&A sessions.

Acclaimed photographer, Saeid Sadeghi asserts that he sent thousands of young Iranian men to their graves. One boy, Fereydoon Maleki, was my childhood best friend. Today, 20 years later, Saeid and I embark on a journey to discover how his photographs propelled a generation to their deaths.

Weight Throwers

In the deprived neighborhoods of Safi, Morocco’s most important industrial port, Azzedine, a Seated Shots World Record holder ,and his trainee, Youssef, a mentally disabled want-to-be athlete, dedicate themselves to sport. They have a goal to make it to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, which they hope will change the way they are perceived at home.
