Greenhouse is a unique, innovative, international initiative aimed at developing and nurturing documentary filmmakers from the Middle East & North Africa by providing them with expert mentoring in the context of three successive workshops.

Since its establishment in 2006 Greenhouse has aimed to contribute to the future growth of democratic values in the Middle East & North Africa. Greenhouse offers a safe, professional, and challenging atmosphere for the constructive exploration of political issues through creative techniques and artistic debate.

Who can apply?
Citizens or residents of one of the following countries are eligible to apply: Algeria, Afghanistan, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey & United Arab Emirates.We are looking for committed filmmakers who have the passion and accessibility to create a documentary film at least 50 minutes long.

What will the seminar program include?
Each seminar will include the following: A film case study or master class by prominent filmmakers, group sessions, personal training sessions, lectures, a pitching workshop, an editing workshop and a pitching forum event.

How much does it cost to participate?

What happens between seminars?
The seminars are followed up by personal tutorial support through emails for each and every project. Specific assignments for each project will be given and be fulfilled between the seminars.

When is the deadline?
The deadline for applying to the 2017/18 program has ended. We will announce the call for application for the 2018/19 program on May 2018.

Where can the films be made?
The films can be made anywhere, depending on the scripts, though preferably within the Middle East & North Africa region.

Who is involved / Who is operating the program?
Since it's inception and until 2013 Greenhouse was funded by the European Union. Since 2013, Greenhouse is supported by various philanthropist, NGO's and cinema organizations. What is the main goal of the program?
Greenhouse's main goal is to professionally train emerging documentary filmmakers from the Middle East & North Africa in documentary filmmaking as well as assist them with access to the international documentary market.

How long is each seminar?
