The 2016 Greenhouse Artist in Residence at the Jacob Burns Film Center
JBFC awarded the 2016 Residency Program to two projects from the 2014-2015 Greenhouse Program
The 2016 Greenhouse Artist in Residence program awarded by the Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) took place on March 13th – 31st, 2016. The selected filmmakers, Maryam Ebrahimi from Iran, with her project 'Stronger than a Bullet' and Hind Bensari from Morocco, with her project 'Weight Throwers'. Both filmmakers graduated the 2014-2015 Greenhouse Program.
Maryam and Hind, along with their editors, were invited for 2-3 weeks of extensive editing at the JBFC facilities in NY. This was a wonderful opportunity for both filmmakers to continue to work on their projects and to receive constructive feedback from NY-based documentary experts.
JBFC will also organize screenings of Maryam & Hind's previous films ('No Burqas Behind Bars' & '475: Break the Silence') along with Q&A sessions, for high school students, as well as their adult education groups. JBFC will also hold screenings of the works-in-progress: ' Stronger than a Bullet' & 'Weight Throwers', along with discussions for select target audiences.
In addition the JBFC hosted a photo exhibition by Saied Sadeghi, the Iranian photographer whose work is highlighted in the film 'Stronger Than a Bullet'. Sadeghi’s powerful photographs were on view in the Jane Peck Gallery throughout March.
